DRAWING

My contemplative drawings begin without a preconceived image, guided by the idea of creating as many pathways of connection as possible. I had been fascinated with this definition of a rhizome: “a non-hierarchical, decentralized network structure that connects any point to any other point, without a fixed center or beginning and end.”

I wondered if others shared this imagined picture of an interconnected Universe and decided to interview some friends and strangers. Many shared vivid images of how they believed invisible energies and entities interact, describing nesting onion shapes, cosmic vacuums, and sometimes drawing me pictures of their ideas on scrap paper. One person responded with a poem. I carried these impressions in my mind as I drew.
